Bridge Treatment

A dental bridge is a prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth by bridging the gap between adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. Bridges are anchored to the neighboring teeth or implants, called abutments, and consist of artificial teeth, called pontics, that fill in the space left by the missing teeth.

Here are the main types of dental bridges:

TYPE OF BRIDGE

Traditional Fixed Bridge

This is the most common type of dental bridge. It consists of one or more pontics (artificial teeth) that are held in place by dental crowns placed on the abutment teeth adjacent to the gap. The crowns are cemented onto the natural teeth or implants to provide stability and support for the bridge.

Cantilever Bridge

In this type of bridge, the pontic is supported by a dental crown on only one side, while the other end of the bridge is unsupported. Cantilever bridges are typically used when there is only one adjacent tooth available to support the bridge.

Maryland Bridge (Resin-Bonded Bridge)

Maryland bridges consist of a pontic attached to metal or porcelain wings on the backside of adjacent teeth. Unlike traditional bridges, Maryland bridges do not require extensive preparation of the neighboring teeth since they are bonded to the teeth using a special dental adhesive.

Implant-Supported Bridge

In cases where multiple adjacent teeth are missing, an implant-supported bridge may be recommended. This type of bridge is anchored to dental implants surgically placed in the jawbone, providing excellent stability and preventing bone loss in the jaw.

Fiber Reinforced Composite Bridge

Fiber-reinforced composite bridges are a tooth-colored, one-visit (sometimes) option for replacing missing front teeth. They involve minimal shaving of surrounding teeth, making them conservative and budget-friendly, but their strength might not be ideal for back teeth or long-term use.

Price : RM 700 – RM 800 per Teeth (maximum 2 teeth)

Time of Treatment : 15 minute – 1 hour (single visit)

TYPE OF BRIDGE MATERIAL

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM)

This is a popular and versatile choice. The inner framework is made of metal for strength and durability, while the outer layer is porcelain, which offers a natural, tooth-colored appearance. PFM bridges are suitable for both front and back teeth.

Zirconia

This material is gaining popularity due to its strength, durability, and natural-looking aesthetics. Zirconia bridges can be a good alternative to PFM, particularly for patients with metal allergies or who desire a more translucent appearance.

Metal

A metal bridge is a strong and reliable option for replacing missing teeth. It typically consists of a metal framework supporting porcelain crowns that match the color of your natural teeth. This makes them a versatile choice for both front and back teeth. While not the most aesthetically pleasing option due to the metal base sometimes showing, metal bridges offer excellent durability and longevity at a generally lower cost compared to other materials.
