Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure used to treat an infected or inflamed tooth’s pulp. The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, trauma, or other factors, it can cause severe pain and lead to further complications if left untreated.
During a root canal procedure, the dentist or endodontist removes the infected or damaged pulp, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and then fills and seals it with a material called gutta-percha. This helps prevent further infection and preserves the tooth’s structure and function. In some cases, a dental crown may be placed on top of the treated tooth to provide additional strength and protection. Root canal treatment is often necessary to save a tooth that would otherwise require extraction.
The number of visits required at our clinic will depend on the specific case and condition of your teeth.
